About this Independent Study
This 1 hour online course will cover ways that health care staff, especially community health workers, can start conversations with teenagers and young adults, and how they can bring up topics such as planning for the future and pregnancy prevention.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to
- Describe how the changes in the teenage brain and body affect how teenagers make decisions,
- Explore personal attitudes and biases,
- List tips for speaking with teenagers,
- List client-centered questions to help teenagers think about their future and make decisions about contraceptives.
Who Should Register
This course is designed for community health workers and community outreach/education staff. Other staff who work with teens and young adult clients will benefit.
Continuing Education
Texas community health workers (CHWs) and CHW Instructors can apply for 1 hour of continuing CHW or CHW-I education.
Cardea Services is an approved provider of continuing education credits by: The Texas Department of State Health Services.
